The Nest relates to the process of growing up and change. Robin and her brothers and sister must ensure they do not put themselves in danger while their parents are away looking for food. This book considers the the problems associated with stranger danger, staying safe, growing up, identity and sibling rivalry. Links are made to the EYFS and suggestions are made to the reader in relation to topics and questions to ask children during the reading process. Further links are made to the theory of Lev Vygotsky. These include Social Development theory and considerations of the Zone of Proximal Development, in other words, learning with others and the benefits of social development.
